New York Editorial Photographer trade magazine shoot
Working as a New York editorial photographer, I’m often commissioned to execute photo assignments for various trade magazines and specialty publications.
My years of working as a news photojournalist gave me the exposure to a broad range of subjects, resulting in experience with executives and construction workers, being out on job sites and in brokerage board rooms.
This shoot was commissioned by a trade magazine which serves the septic and drain industry. My brief was to provide coverage of a family run business which serves everything from residential customers to municipalities. Working with the company for just a few hours, I was able to provide a wide variety of images for the publication’s use as story illustrators and as choices for a cover image. A small selection of what I produced is shown here.
The challenge of producing a large amount of material from a limited subject in a short amount of time is one I’m very familiar with. My years of working as a news photographer and photojournalist gave me the ability to plan, and plan some more, then “see” my images quickly once I’m on site. This allows me to execute many ideas and types of shots while taking up only a limited amount of time from the subjects. Further, I work light and move quickly. Even though I’m doing a lot of supplemental lighting, it doesn’t take me hours to get one image. And I’m quick at recognizing the “hero” situation ( such as the image above ) which arises on every shoot and can give it the extra attention it deserves.
