An assignment to photograph several NY state craft breweries and distilleries produced portraits of brewmasters, detail photos and environmental images from each location. This was an intense daylong shoot traveling to 3 different locations. But such assignments are very common in my work as a Utica NY photographer covering a very big state of NY.

Working for the Brew Central NY advertising and marketing campaign, we made several stops at craft breweries one long day.
Photographing the owners and brewmasters. Shooting some basic images of their operations. Trying to make some ‘sense of place’ pictures. All in the interest of promoting the robust craft brewing and distilling industry that has taken firm hold in the state.

My approach is to only use available light as a photographer. And that means whatever is available from the heavens or from the trunk of my car. Respecting and leveraging natural light as well as creating artificial lighting plans are both skills every photographer should have.
At work, details, all produced quickly with supplemental lighting.
Portraits of company owners, all using supplemental lighting while using little of their precious time.
Making environmental business portraits is a favorite aspect of all of my business photography assignments. I like to light them subtly, to keep them looking natural.
Finding the ‘flavor’ of the environment is another favorite aspect of business assignments, regardless of wether that is at a craft brewery, a professional office or a factory floor.
